A live demo of Google’s Project Astra hints at the future of Gemini

  • Google unveiled its Project Astra, a technology which may be included in its upcoming consumer AI assistant. During a demo of Astra, Google separated its features down into alliteration, recording stick figure drawings, creating automated stories, and performing an open experience. Astra displayed its ability to recall information and memories of people and their associated objects, and it could identify tattoos and guess which show someone was thinking of from a drawing. The demos given at Google suggest it could be an effective addition to its AI voice assistants.
  • Google's Project Astra has been demonstrated publicly in a small demo to reveal features that may become part of its AI assistants. At I/O 2024, Google DeepMind detailed the technology behind certain features of the AI assistant, which the company indicated could become part of Gemini Live. Astra's features were alliteration, storytelling, Pictionary, and an open experience.
  • During a demonstration, the Pictionary feature was tested by a Google employee who drew pictures which Astra then interpreted. Astra was able to guess what programme was being depicted by the images. A feature known as the open experience traced Astra's abilities to recall facts and details related to objects.
  • The Astra demo has been touted as a window into the future of AI assistants. While some industry insiders have questioned the practicality of its features, others believe that it could be a useful tool for individuals working in creative fields who could benefit from bouncing ideas around with a machine that may bring alternate perspectives to the table.
  • Google demonstrated its Project Astra in a small, closed-door demo in which it shared how it will be used in its upcoming Gemini Live, an AI-powered conversational experience for mobile devices. Project Astra's four features are Pictionary, open experience, alliteration and storytelling.
  • Pictionary had an implementation in which Google employees drew pictures and Project Astra guessed which TV show was being depicted. In open experience, Astra was able to recall facts such as the names of plush toys. The feature of alliteration had Astra speaking in alliterations regarding the object while the storytelling feature had the AI making up stories about anything it saw.
  • Google showcased its Project Astra in a minute-long video at the company's I/O event, which offers potential insight into what a future consumer AI assistant may look like. During the demonstration, Astra was able to connect with a camera and recall the names of plush toys, recognise tattoos and help suggest TV shows based on a drawing.
  • By demonstrating its Project Astra technology, Google revealed key features which make up the AI assistant's abilities. Alliteration, storytelling, Pictionary, and an open experience were all features demonstrated during the presentation, with Pictionary offering a particularly fun execution.
  • Google showcased Project Astra, the technology platform that underpins its forthcoming AI assistant, Gemini Live. The platform provides an intelligent voice assistant capability for mobile devices with capabilities such as the ability to guess TV shows and identify tattoos.
  • Google unveiled its Project Astra technology at I/O 2024, which will become part of its upcoming Gemini Live AI assistant. Astra demonstrated its proficiency in areas such as alliteration, storytelling, Pictionary, and open experiences. With Pictionary, a Google employee drew a picture, and Project Astra guessed which TV programme it was.
