A blog post by Microsoft mentioned Copilot-related updates aligning with the annual Windows 11 feature update release.
However, Microsoft later updated the post to clarify that the mentioned dates were unrelated to Windows 11 24H2 availability.
When released, Windows 11 24H2 will bring Wi-Fi 7 support and AI-related changes, including Copilot becoming an app.

How Custom GitHub Actions Enabled Us to Streamline Thousands of CI/CD Pipelines

Permit.io has invested heavily in solving the challenge of automating CI/CD pipelines while maintaining consistent permission management across various environments.
By integrating GitHub Actions with Permit.io APIs, they were able to streamline their CI/CD process and make their environment model accessible and efficient for development teams.
Their environment-project model provides flexibility and control across multiple stages of development allowing users to create isolated environments, manage permissions seamlessly and automate workflows.
In order to streamline the continuous integration of PR-based workflows, they created a custom GitHub Action that incorporates three workflows - new-env.yaml, run-pdp.yaml, and merging.yaml.
Their GitHub Action was able to automate the process of creating a new Permit environment for each PR, run integration and product tests, and merge the Permit environment with the production environment after PR is approved.
The new-env.yaml workflow automates the creation of a new environment in Permit and replicates production settings in the new environment ensuring consistency across different stages.
The run-pdp.yaml workflow spins up a local Policy Decision Point (PDP) instance via Docker and runs integration and product tests to test the accuracy of permission settings before merging changes into production.
The merging.yaml workflow merges the PR-specific environment into the production environment and deletes the PR-specific environment ensuring that no unnecessary environments linger, thereby reducing clutter and maintaining a clean development setup.
By automating these steps, Permit.io significantly reduced manual intervention, minimized errors, and sped up the entire CI/CD process.
Permit.io's flexible environment model combined with GitHub Actions offers a powerful solution to automate and secure development workflows for optimizing the CI/CD pipeline.

35 years ago, Steve Jobs launched an obscure operating system that changed everything

NeXTSTEP, a computer operating system launched by Steve Jobs after he was forced out of Apple, celebrated its 35th anniversary on September 18, 1989, and though it has been discontinued, it's had a monumental impact on computing history and development.
It was NeXTSTEP that paved the way for macOS and all of Apple's other modern operating systems, and in addition, the World Wide Web was dreamed up on it as well.
The macOS Dock, large full-color icons, drag-and-drop functionality across the operating system, scrolling and window dragging, properties dialog boxes, and keyboard shortcuts are some of the things that NeXTSTEP was responsible for.
The Electronic AppWrapper, the forerunner of modern app stores, was created on NeXTSTEP. It was a catalog for distributing apps, music, fonts, clip art, and other software, well ahead of its time.
NeXTSTEP's power made it an excellent resource for programmers and app developers. It found its way to CERN, the nuclear research organization, and helped computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee to create the World Wide Web.
Berners-Lee also used NeXTSTEP to develop the world's first web browser, which he named WorldWideWeb. The popular games Doom and Quake were also created on the system.
The legacy of NeXTSTEP lives on in terms of software features still in use and the things it was used to create, even though it remains relatively unknown.
Apple formally bought NeXT in 1997 for $429 million, bringing Steve Jobs onboard and eventually leading to the first launch of Mac OS X, ending active development of NeXT's operating system.
Despite its small sales numbers, NeXTSTEP had an outsized influence on computing and was held up as a trendsetter for its many innovations, with other companies quickly copying its ideas in their own systems.
The combination of NeXTSTEP and Apple's existing software led to the first launch of Mac OS X, ending active development of NeXT's operating system, and bringing about Apple's resurgence as a global rockstar.
