When implemented in VC activities, AI can ensure optimized business processes, data processing, and analysis, legal due diligence, and a wide range of other activities. Key limitations of AI adoption in the financial industry include model interpretability, skill gaps in implementing tech, cost and resource constraints, ethical concerns, and data privacy protections.
- Academic literature emphasizes the potential of AI in reducing biases in deal sourcing, increasing diligence quality, and improving operational efficiency. However, AI-based models applied to venture capital have yet to adequately consider all core VC activities, including deal negotiation, investment structuring, future funding, and exit methodologies. Developing a gradient-based and real-value-tied investment recommendation methodology that considers a firm's entire VC workflow can greatly improve value-additive decision-making.
- Predictive modeling using AI systems like ML-based Random Forest or SVM technology can help determine a firm's value; even mature firms exploring an exit opportunity can benefit from AI-based valuation models. Future funding decisions can also benefit from AI, utilizing multi-class classification techniques, and real monetary recommendations. Finally, the literature should further explore AI's potential in deal negotiation, investment structuring, future funding activities, and exit methodologies.
