Google Cloud turbocharges its AI Hypercomputer stack with next-gen TPUs and bigger GPU clusters

Google Cloud has unveiled sixth-generation Tensor Processing Units called the Trillium TPU, which will compete with NVidia's powerful GPUs. Also among new infrastructure software offerings is the Hypercompute Cluster, an advanced, scalable clustering system providing unmatched efficiency and performance, plus Hyperdisk ML block storage and Parallelstore parallel file systems. Trillium TPUs provide a four-times boost in AI training and three-times boost in inference throughput compared to previous models, and a 67% increase in energy efficiency. TPUs can be aligned in clusters of up to 256 chips in a low-latency pod linked to additional pods. The A3 Ultra VMs powered by NVidia's H200 Graphics Processing Units will also soon be available, as will C4 VMs based on Google's Axion CPUs.
Hypercompute Cluster simplifies infrastructure and workload provisioning so clients can deploy and manage thousands of accelerators as a single unit. The feature also enables low-latency networking, supporting demanding AI and HPC workloads.
Trillium TPUs can run larger language models with more weights, larger key value caches and offer improvements for a broad range of model architectures in training and inference.
Titanium infrastructure enhances compute and memory resources offered to different workloads while cutting processing overheads. It now supports a range of AI workloads, including demanding ones.
Parallelstore parallel file systems also offer increased performance, with clients able to continue using NVidia's GPUs with Google's cloud infrastructure.
Google's most recent Axion CPUs are also available in the latest C4A VMs, giving cheaper, yet performance optimised options for general-purpose AI workloads.
The A3 Ultra VMs are able to deliver up to 3.2 terabits per second of GPU-to-GPU traffic, with twice as much bandwidth and roughly double the memory capacity.
The company also released updated AI-focused storage solutions, which offer faster model load times and increased training times, and provided extra support for the Jupiter optical circuit switching fabric and Cloud Interconnect networking service.
Google has continued to maintain its technological advance by making improvements to machine learning software and hardware technologies, topping its rivals in terms of putting customer algorithms like TensorFlow onto customer hardware.
The company wants to make it cheaper for customers to run its AI Hypercomputer stack while providing advanced features such as Trillium TPUs, Hypercompute Cluster and Titanium infrastructure.

Apple has announced its new M4 MacBook Pro in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes with options in M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max configurations along with the same CPU core counts as the previous generation.
The M4 chip is faster with increased single-threaded performance. The graphics are better as the cores have higher frequencies and wider video memory bandwidth paving the way for improved performance.
Apple has bumped up the memory to 16GB from 8GB in its base configuration, which sees a 30% wider bandwidth across all configurations. The device features brighter mini-LED panels now going up to 1000 nits of brightness in SDR and has the option for upgrading to a nano-texture display.
The 1080p FaceTime camera has been upgraded to a higher-resolution 12-megapixel and comes with Center Stage that automatically centers your face, and Desk View allowing you to get a top-down view of your desk.
The port selection hasn't changed, but the USB-C ports are now Thunderbolt 5 with transfer speeds of 120Gb/s, which is three times faster than the MacBook Pro’s last generation.
The M4 MacBook Pro moves the goal post from the previous 22 hours of battery life up to 24 hours but realistic battery life compared to video playback may alter this.
Space Black is now on all configurations of the 14-inch MacBook Pro in place of Space Gray.

M4 MacBook Pro adds M4 Max power and promises 24 hours of battery life

Apple has announced its new 3-nanometer M4 CPU, bringing new performance milestones to MacBook Pro. There are also two new variations available -- the M4 Pro and M4 Max.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro will support the new entry-level M4 CPU, while both the 14-inch and 16-inch models will be offered in configurations featuring the more powerful M4 Pro and M4 Max CPUs.
The M4 Max is leading the pack in terms of performance, with up to a 16-core CPU, up to a 40-core GPU, and support for 128GB of unified memory. The MacBook Pro M4 gets an extra Thunderbolt 4 port, bringing the total to three.
The MacBook Pro M4 Pro and the new MacBook Pro M4 Max both support Thunderbolt 5 for 120gbps throughput. The display of M4 MacBook Pro has nano-texture display on offer that helps diffuse direct light and make it a better fit for outdoor work.
Apple is promising up to 24 hours of battery life for M4 MacBook Pro. However, it is unclear which activity would provide such longevity in terms of usage.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro M4 starts at $1,599 / 1,599 / $2,499AU, while the 16-inch MacBook Pro starts at $2,499 / 2,499 / $3,999AU. Both laptops are available for pre-order and will ship on Nov. 8.
Although the design looks unchanged from its predecessors, the new MacBook Pro M4 carries a 12MP Centerstage camera, which enables framing of portions of the ultra-wide lens feed for it to follow you during a video call.
The M4 MacBook Pro's display now has the new ability to push 1,000 nits with SDR content and can connect to up to two high-resolution displays at once.
M4 MacBook Pro runs on Apple Intelligence, allowing it to support whatever version of Apple's own brand of Generative AI is available at the time of delivery.
The 14-inch MacBook Pro M4 is configurable up to a 14-core CPU, 32-core GPU, 36GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage for $3,199 / 3,199 / $4,999AU. The MacBook Pro M4 16-inch is configurable up to a 16-core CPU, 40-core GPU, 48GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage for $3,999 / 3,999 / $6,499AU.

Relational databases are excellent for complex data management. Amazon RDS is a managed database service that facilitates database management tasks that are necessary for optimizing query optimization and customer data management tasks.
The popularity of relational databases makes them a familiar choice for tech professionals, and their adherence to ACID principles ensures the accuracy and integrity of data.
Amazon RDS supports various engines such as commercial, open-source, and cloud-native options. It offers multiple storage types to tailor cost and performance.
Amazon RDS implements IAM policies, security groups, encryption at rest, and SSL/TLS connections for security purposes.
Amazon's RDS Multi-AZ deployment offers high availability by creating a redundant copy of databases in another availability zone, that provides access to the data so that applications can query and display the data.
In automatic failover, the standby database is promoted to the primary role, and queries are redirected to the new primary database.
Amazon RDS is built from compute and storage, and the compute portion is called a database (DB) instance, containing multiple databases with the same engine and different supported features and configurations.
The storage portion of DB instances for Amazon RDS use Amazon Elastic Block Store for database and log storage.
To accomplish regular backups of Amazon RDS instances, you can use automated backups, which are turned on by default, or manual snapshots to get backups that exist until deletion. Automated backups are beneficial for point-in-time recovery.
Amazon RDS Multi-AZ ensures that you have two copies of your database running and that one of them is in the primary role.
