Nvidia’s RTX 5090 isn’t melting power cables, but it sure looks that way

Hong Kong-based tech outlet PCM raised alarms after testing Nvidia’s RTX 5090D and RTX 5080, encountering melted power cables and a failed power supply unit.
A deeper investigation revealed that an old RTX 4090 Founders Edition (FE) was responsible for the meltdown, not the newer RTX 50-series cards.
The RTX 4090 FE had the original, more failure-prone power connector, while the RTX 50-series GPUs have a revised 12V-2×6 connector that prevents power delivery unless properly seated.
To address concerns, GPU manufacturers are introducing additional safety measures, such as safety light features and visible indicators to confirm a secure connection.

Microsoft Phone Link will soon make it easier to move on from your old phone

The Phone Link app is being upgraded to make it easier to switch between handsets and unlink connected iPhone or Android phones from Phone Link.
Previously, users had to manage this through their Microsoft account settings on the web, but now they can do it right from the Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices page in Windows Settings.

According to Bloomberg, Apple will only offer the option to subscribe monthly or annually to AppleCare+.
The online option is still available, which doesn’t require device inspection.

Bad news, PC gamers: this retailer’s worst-case prediction for the Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU is a long wait until almost June for the GPU to be back in stock

Nvidia’s RTX 5090 and 5080 are out of stock everywhere, and according to a major components retailer in the UK, Overclockers (OCUK), stock is sold out and pre-orders aren’t being offered any longer.
OCUK has a worst-case ETA of 16 weeks for RTX 5090 stock, and the ETA for the RTX 5080 is two to six weeks, a bit more palatable, but still a potentially long wait.
Note that pre-orders that have been successfully placed with OCUK are in a queue, and the retailer is working with its supply chain to fulfill these within the ETAs above, or sooner if possible.
The fact that the RTX 5090 is pushed out to a possible 16 weeks puts us at almost the end of May before the ‘Buy’ button lights up again, while the RTX 5080 may be unavailable until mid-March.
The worst-case scenarios presented reflect everything we’re seeing right now. Unless we get a quick recovery for RTX 5080 stock that runs against OCUK’s expectations, the situation looks distinctly rocky with Blackwell stock for now.
AMD has a chance to capitalize on Nvidia's current situation by building up good levels of RDNA 4 supply for the launch of its RX 9070 models and take on Nvidia’s RTX 5070 graphics cards.
All in all, the outlook remains seriously bleak for those looking for an Nvidia Blackwell graphics card.
