Alphabet Inc. is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire Israeli cloud security firm Wiz Inc. for around $30 billion.
Wiz was founded in 2020 and offers a software platform designed to help companies detect vulnerabilities and malicious activity in their cloud setup.
The $30 billion acquisition, if completed, would be Alphabet's and Google's largest acquisition, surpassing their previous largest acquisition of Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in 2011.
Prior to these discussions, Wiz has raised $1.9 billion in funding and has made several acquisitions to drive its rapid growth.

Tech Firms Now Face Fines Under Online Safety Act

Tech companies can now face fines and other measures for failing to remove illegal content under the UK’s Online Safety Act, regulator Ofcom said on Monday.
The law, passed in October 2023, brings into place more stringent measures against social media platforms, search engines, messaging systems, gaming and dating apps and pornography and file-sharing sites for failing to remove illegal content.
Sanctioned content includes materials related to militant groups, hate, fraud, child sexual abuse, and content encouraging or assisting suicide.
Ofcom can levy fines of up to £18m or 10 percent of a company’s annual global turnover for failure to comply.
