Bitcoin ‘Creator’ Craig Wright Repeatedly Lied, Rules UK Judge

  • Australian computer scientist, Craig Wright has been found to have lied extensively and repeatedly by a UK judge after he claimed he was the inventor of Bitcoin.
  • Craig Wright was taken to court by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA) who referred to in court documents as the self-proclaimed inventor of Bitcoin to stop him suing Bitcoin developers.
  • Craig Wright had been using English libel law to sue people who denied he was the inventor of Bitcoin and who called him a fraud.
  • COPA asked for a ruling that Dr Wright was not the individual behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto who created Bitcoin.
  • Mr Justice Mellor gave the reasons for his conclusions on Monday stating in a lengthy written ruling that Wright is not nearly as clever as he thinks he is.
  • Mr Justice Mellor also said that Wright’s actions in suing developers and his expressed views about Bitcoin also pointed against him being Satoshi.
  • Despite the overwhelming evidence, Craig Wright has stated that he fully intends to appeal the decision of the court on the matter of the identity issue.
  • Bitcoin, the revolutionary digital currency, was created by an enigmatic figure or group, known only by the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto, who vanished from the scene in 2011.
  • Many Bitcoin skeptics believe that the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto no longer matters to Bitcoin, which is based on an open-source protocol.
  • The COPA welcomed today's ruling in a series of tweets arguing that it has brought the lawsuit to preserve the open-source nature of Bitcoin.

Traeger Timberline XL Grill review: A big investment, but worth it if you want a full outdoor kitchen

  • The Traeger Timberline is an outdoor grill that uses compressed wood pellets as fuel for cooking with smoke and indirect heat.
  • It features touchscreen with Wi-Fi connectivity, along with a better design to make cleaning simpler, and the addition of an induction cooktop on the side.
  • The grill comes almost fully assembled, and it took less than one hour to set it up.
  • The grill allows cooking meat, vegetables, and baked goods, and is great for smoking meat due to the down draft exhaust and indirect heat.
  • Traeger app allows users to set the grill's temperature and monitor the cooking process via pairing with the smartphone.
  • Including two wireless meat thermometers, the grill allows the probe to be inserted into cuts of meat, and cooking temperature is set on the grill's touch screen or through the Traeger app.
  • The grill is large enough to help feed a crowd, and adjustable shelves to move items around as necessary.
  • It features an ash and grease keg positioned right underneath the grill grates, making it easy to remove the ash from the grill without having to clean out a separate section.
  • The Timberline is the first Traeger to include an induction cooktop and can be controlled from the grill's touchscreen or the phone app.
  • The Traeger Timberline Grill is pricey but worth it if you love outdoor cooking.

Insider Q&A: CIA's chief technologist's cautious embrace of generative AI

  • The CIA is embracing generative AI to augment human efforts in knowledge advantage to save lives, win wars, and avert disaster to counter adversaries who are already spreading AI-generated deepfakes aimed at undermining U.S. interests.
  • The CIA's Chief Technology Officer, Nand Mulchandani, is overseeing the ChatGPT-like generative AI application that depends on open-source data and thousands of analysts across the 18-agency US intelligence community use it.
  • Mulchandani, former CEO of Silicon Valley start-ups, believes that generative AI should be treated like a 'crazy, drunk friend' and works only for activities like art, poetry, and painting rather than precise work like designing an airplane or skyscraper.
  • CIA's only use of a large-language model at enterprise scale is the open-source AI, called Osiris, it created for the entire intelligence community. However, analysts also use it to process huge amounts of foreign language content in multiple media types.
  • Mulchandani said the primary use case for an LLM at the CIA is summarization, giving analysts a broader perspective of classified and open-source pieces they gather. This has been a game-changer for insights into sentiment and global trends.
  • Challenges the agency faces include maintaining the security of data, including encryption and privacy controls, while connecting systems efficiently for productive productivity gains through data combination.
  • Mulchandani emphasized that the human analyst has primacy in intelligence work. Gen AI cannot replicate human judgment, and computers don't replace domain experts' jobs, but can serve as a co-pilot model to generate new ideas, boost productivity and insight.
