AWS Serverless: Invoke Lambda function asynchronously and use DLQ for failed events

The primary purpose of this video is to demonstrate how DLQ work for AWS Lambda functions, with a specific focus on configuring a Dead Letter Queue for failed events.
Both approaches—using a DLQ or a destination—require asynchronous invocation of the Lambda function.
For this demonstration, I will use the AWS CLI to invoke the function asynchronously.
In this article, I will demonstrate an alternative approach to managing failed events: using a Dead Letter Queue (DLQ) with Amazon SQS.
To test this, I will update the code to intentionally raise an exception, ensuring the function fails and generates a qualifying event.
Additionally, I showcased how to invoke the lambda function asynchronously using AWS CLI command.
In this article, I demonstrated how to configure a Dead Letter Queue using SQS for a Lambda function.
Both approaches—using a DLQ or a destination—require asynchronous invocation of the Lambda function.
Once you have completed the setup, ensure you delete the Lambda function to avoid unnecessary resource usage. Additionally, delete the SQS queue and CloudWatch log group. If you created any new roles during the process, remember to delete those as well.

Why I’m skipping the PS5 Pro in 2025 and upgrading my gaming PC instead

The writer has decided that using a very fast desktop graphics card and long cables is a good conversion alternative to a PS5 Pro being mounted into a living room setup.
Buying a console isn’t worth the hefty price tag and concern of its graphical potency.
The writer already has the cables he needs to convert his current gaming PC with a 4K capable graphics card into the living room setup.
The cables consist of a 10m-long HDMI and two snaking 12m USB booster extension cords.
Other alternatives to wiring include wireless, streaming, or a wireless mouse and keyboard.
The new desktop GPU is what the writer is waiting for, with the launch of the AMD RDNA3 and Nvidia Lovelace series happening at the start of 2025.
The writer is hoping that the upcoming GPU launches at CES 2025 will offer relatively more affordable 4K gaming options.
The writer can still enjoy the PlayStation library with his upgraded gaming PC in the living room, although he will miss out on the newest PS5 exclusives.

AMD in 2024: year in review
