Croissant is a new iPhone app from Ben McCarthy and Aaron Vegh that simplifies cross-posting to Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads at an indie-friendly price. The app doesn’t try to replicate the many features you’ll find in services like Buffer.
Croissant lets users to post on multiple platforms at once. The app is primarily beneficial for indie developers, artists, websites, and other creators.
Designed with a deep yellow color, Croissant is focused on drafting posts. The app offers seven other color options, a total of seven app icon options, and 3 icons to pick from for the post-publishing button.
Multiple accounts are used in Croissant by signing up, which can be a time-consuming process at the beginning. Users are required to manage their accounts themselves and will see the icon for each of the sites they are connected with at the top of the compose view.
Croissant displays a character count at the top of each draft post and features a step that requests confirmation before publishing a post on multiple platforms simultaneously.
Shortcuts support and a scheduling feature would be great additions to Croissant. An iPad and a Mac version of the app would also be welcome by users.
Croissant offers a subscription for some features, which is an excellent solution for those who work online and want to promote what they make or who maintain active accounts across several services. The app’s subscription pricing is $2.99 /month, $19.99/year, or a one-time payment of $59.99.

Microsoft is finally making Copilot+ laptops useful for AI

Microsoft is releasing an update for all Windows 11 PCs, unlocking several features for Copilot+ devices. This includes the highly controversial Recall, which will start showing up on Copilot+ laptops with a Snapdragon X chipset throughout October. Snapdragon X laptops will get the feature first, but Microsoft has reiterated that Intel- and AMD-based Copilot+ PCs will get Recall (and other Copilot+ features) starting in November. Microsoft is also adding more features to its Photos and Paint apps in the process.
Microsoft has detailed the security architecture of the Recall feature and addressed some major criticisms of it. Recall is now turned off instead of on by default. Microsoft is allowing users to filter websites and giving users more control over their snapshots, including deleting them all.
In Photos, you’ll now be able to use AI-powered super resolution to increase the resolution of low-quality images. In Paint, Microsoft is adding generative fill and erase. Microsoft is still working on an AI-powered Windows search, which it says it’s expanding to the Settings app and the general Windows search over the coming months.
Microsoft is also introducing a new AI-powered feature called Click to Do in a preview state on Copilot+ PCs. Click to Do analyzes what's on your screen and provides context-aware actions in a menu. The actions in Click to Do expand further, allowing you to send an email, open a website, search the internet, and more from the Click to Do menu.
The Recall feature will come to Windows Insiders first, starting in November, along with other Copilot+ features. Microsoft announced several features coming to the Copilot app more broadly.
