To install GCC and Geany on Ubuntu 24.04, open the terminal and run the following command lines:
$ sudo apt-get install g++
$ sudo apt-get install geany
After installing GCC and Geany, create a new C++ code and save it in the program-1.cpp file.
Compile, build, and execute the code by clicking the options in Geany, and check the execution result in the bottom-right window.

August foreign-branded smartphone sales in China drop 12.7% YoY

Sales of foreign-branded smartphones, including Apple’s iPhone, experienced a 12.7% year-over-year decline in China during August.
The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) reported a decrease from 2.142 million handsets sold in August last year to 1.87 million handsets this year.
Overall phone sales in China increased by 26.7% compared to last year, reaching 24.05 million handsets in August.
The decline in foreign-branded smartphone sales in China indicates potential demand for upcoming releases, such as the iPhone 16.

TurtleBot3 OpenCR firmware update from a snap

Canonical has published a tutorial that details how to create a custom Ubuntu Core image for the TurtleBot3, with the capability to update OpenCR firmware. The firmware enables communication between Raspberry Pi and motors, IMUs and batteries, and is configured via USB. Firmware versions must match those of the ROS distribution to which they are connected. Updating the robot's firmware is necessary when using a ROS noetic snap with an OpenCR board that is configured with ROS 2 Humble firmware. With firmware updates built into a snap, it will stay compatible with ROS distributions and run the most current firmware. Canonical's solution for firmware updates for OpenCR is just one example of how firmware can be updated with snaps.
Snaps can now carry and flash firmware, meaning that they can be updated remotely even on devices that can't run an OS. Canonical's TurtleBot3 already has a defined procedure for firmware updates, according to blogpost author or Core Software Engineer for Robotics at Canonical, Alex, AKA Siku. The blogpost details how Siku avoided conflicts between OpenCR and ROS by running the firmware updater in the very same snap controlling the TurtleBot3. Using Ubuntu Core on TurtleBot3, Siku was able to demonstrate how firmware updates can be added to a snap to ensure they always come with the firmware version matching the ROS distribution.
The post goes on to outline specifics regarding the OpenCR scripts themselves, sharing access to the port, updating the firmware application, etc. Users can update the firmware only when it changes using a hashing mechanism in the post-refresh hook. Siku writes that almost every microcontroller has its own flashing method, so the approach described is just one example of how firmware updates can be built into a snap.

Would you play a Warhammer 40K factory game? Because Zachtronics almost made one

Zachtronics are or were a US-based video game developer who made engineering puzzles and factory games, such as SpaceChem and Shenzen I/O.
Zachtronics pitched, but ultimately decided against, to make a Warhammer 40K game due to creative control issues relating to the Warhammer 40K universe and financing the licensing fee.
Zachtronics wanted to make a game set in a Warhammer 40K Forge World that was a workplace comedy with a focus on building cool factories.
The Empire Of Man, and by extension Warhammer 40K's universe, is not open to new creations and requires adherence to strict rules and procedures which create creative limitations.
Zachtronics highlighted that Games Workshop, the owners of Warhammer 40k, were more receptive to creative pitches than most license holders; however, they still wanted upfront payment and a certain degree of creative control.
Costs were the primary factor in Zachtronics deciding not to move forward with the game.
Zachtronics likened Warhammer 40K to an ultimate western otaku database IP property.
Zachtronics explored the possibility of humor in a Warhammer 40K game, but were uncertain about how to approach it and unsure if American audiences would understand British humor.
Zachtronics' creative process prioritises originality, and so they felt limited by the setting's restrictions on creativity.
Zachtronics' quest to create a licensed game doesn't end here, and they have pitched to make a game set in a universe that is very different from Warhammer 40K.
