Radeon RX 9000 series: everything we know about AMD’s next GPUs

AMD is set to announce its RX 9000 series during the CES 2025 keynote, with the expected flagship RX 9070 XT, non-XT version, or the more budget-friendly RX 9060 XT to be included in the first announcement. The RX 9070 XT is expected to arrive by the end of January or in February. AMD plans for the RDNA 4 generation series to focus on the mainstream PC gaming market as senior vice president, Jack Huynh, said AMD wants to build gaming systems for millions of users, not just those who can afford the highest-end cards.
With only two GPUs mentioned, the flagship Navi 48 XTX, and Navi 44 as the mid-to-low-end option, no major architectural changes should occur on RDNA 4. AMD may switch to a more efficient node expected to be TSMC 4nm, with GDDR6 memory modules and more specialized ray-tracing hardware introduced. At roughly 260 watts, the RX 9070 XT is predicted to compete with the likes of Nvidia's RTX 50-series. Early performance leaks show the RX 9070 XT competing within 5% of the RTX 4080. Pricing for the flagship may go up to $700, whereas the RX 9060 XT should cost roughly $250-$350.

What to expect from Nvidia, AMD, and Intel at CES 2025

The CES 2025 is a highly anticipated event for the computing world, especially for Intel, AMD, and Nvidia. Intel is hosting an “Intel-driven” keynote, but it has the least exciting lineup of announcements this year. AMD might have the most stacked CES lineup out of the big three, with RDNA 4 graphics cards taking center stage. Nvidia is expected to talk about RTX 50-series GPUs, and we might get at least the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 at CES 2025.
Intel is likely to dedicate at least a bit of time to talking about the B570 during its keynote and might also take a victory lap with the exceptional Arc B580 that launched a few weeks back. Intel has quietly opened preorders for non-K models in China, and Lunar Lake lineup of CPUs will feature higher-end laptop CPUs with more cores, more power, and possibly higher clock speeds.
AMD is likely to announce the RX 9070 XT to fall somewhere between the performance of RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080, costing between $600 and $650. Other cards in the RDNA 4 lineup are said to arrive somewhere in March, and we might hear something about FSR 4, which is said to be based on AI, utilizing dedicated AI hardware on AMD GPUs for similar image quality to Nvidia’s DLSS.
Nvidia’s next-gen graphics cards, including the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, are expected to launch at CES. The RTX 5080 would release on January 21, and RTX 5090 could crack $2,000. We might hear some details about Nvidia’s RTX 50-series mobile lineup, and DLSS 4 might launch this time around.
Apart from the big three, other major laptop manufacturers would be releasing new products, including refreshes to consumer, commercial, and gaming laptops. We could see long-awaited gaming laptop updates and refreshes if we get RTX 50-series mobile GPUs. Monitors are always a big announcement at CES, and LG introduced its 5K bendable OLED, while Samsung Display launched the rollout of 4K 27-inch QD-OLEDs.
The rumor this year is that Qualcomm will continue its push into the Windows PC landscape, potentially including budget laptops and even desktop PCs. Qualcomm is quickly becoming the big four alongside Intel, AMD, and Nvidia. There might be more disruption in the Windows PC space from Qualcomm.

I regret buying the iPad Pro. This surprising Windows tablet showed me why

The iPad Pro is popular with graphic designers, sketchers, media editors, and note-takers, but all require a stylus and keyboard, which the writer had to purchase at extra cost.
Compared to Apple's peripherals, the Asus ProArt PZ13 comes with the entire keyboard bundle and a stylus with physical buttons in the retail package.
The Asus package's keyboard is well-spaced and serves a decent amount of vertical travel, with more freedom with the function key row, with the backlight able to be controlled and adjusted, unlike Apple's $329 Magic Keyboard.
The iPad Pro has a performance hit, with only underpowered 9-core processors and 8GB of RAM, which is not enough for media editing. The Asus ProArt PZ13 won't burden the user with such problems, with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, making it faster than Apple's MacBook Air with the M3 silicon.
Windows on Arm still offers a full-fledged desktop experience, unlike stretched-mobile iPadOS, which still lacks a fleshed-out web browser. The Asus ProArt PZ13 is the right vehicle for computing dreams.
The Asus ProArt PZ13 has an OLED panel that's not as bright as the iPad Pro but sharp with wide color coverage. The 16:10 aspect ratio and Windows 11's windowing system make it far better for multitasking than the square-ish display format of the iPad Pro.
The Asus ProArt PZ13's kickstand built into the rear magnetic cover is a functional win and can be used for media consumption without the keyboard. The battery life of the Asus ProArt PZ13 surpasses not only the iPad Pro but also a few Intel-based laptops.
The writer found the Asus ProArt PZ13 fantastic, low-on-compromise, punching far above the iPad Pro on productivity metrics, making it the right machine for work-on-the-go.
Windows on Arm has better prospects than iPadOS, and the Asus ProArt PZ13 is just the right tablet for those computing dreams.
