The 2024 iMac with the M4 chip is a stunning and powerful all-in-one.
Despite the small number of ports and storage capacity on the base model, the amount of powerful creative work you can get done on this computer speaks to the golden age of the Mac.
The iMac is a piece of art on a level that an iPad or my beloved Mac mini can’t reach.
The M4 iMac comes in six gorgeous colors, and the colors are much improved and truer to their names.
The display is 24-inch 4.5K with a physical resolution of 4480 × 2520 which is a Retina display with a little more room than a standard 1080p screen.
The new built-in camera supports Center Stage, but it doesn’t record good videos and for that, Apple makes it really easy to use the much better camera you already have in your pocket.
The entry-level iMac comes with 256 GB of storage and 16 GB of unified memory and even when it runs out of physical memory and swaps old memory to the disk, it still feels seamless.
The number of ports on the entry-level model is a bit of a letdown, you have two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a headphone jack.
The iMac is more than capable, looks clean on a desk and can be bought with a single purchase order.
The M4 iMac is a beautiful computer that sparks joy and makes you happy every time you sit down in front of it.

My quest to fully remove Microsoft Edge is finally complete

Uninstalling Microsoft Edge is not an easy task. But there’s a way to get rid of Edge for good and replace the functions in Windows with a browser of your choice.
To uninstall Edge, some registry edits, a little PowerShell and some upkeep are required. This is a bit of work, but there are people who share scripts to make this easier.
The issue with removing Edge completely is that it disables many features within Windows. Searching will no longer pull up web results, weather in Windows won’t work and widgets will be disabled.
Enter MSEdgeRedirect, one of the more popular options among several apps, that redirects normal Edge functions in Windows to a user’s browser and search engine of choice. MSEdgeRedirect taps into dormant components of Edge that are still buried deep within Windows.
MSEdgeRedirect is simply redirecting Edge requests. It hooks into the “microsoft-edge:” handle and tells Windows to use a different browser instead of Edge.
MSEdgeRedirect also offers the option to redirect Bing Search, MSN Weather, MSN News, Bing Images and Bing Discover to the service you prefer.
MSEdgeRedirect not only removes some annoyances with Windows but also puts users in control of the services they interact with.

Windows 11 updates can occasionally fail to install and show an ‘undoing changes to your PC’ error.

The free open-source MangoHud package allows you to add a Vulkan and OpenGL overlay for monitoring FPS, temperatures, CPU/GPU load and more while gaming.
Most Linux distributions include MangoHud in their system repositories.
To install MangoHud on Debian/Ubuntu based systems, run the following command: sudo apt install mangohud
To start a game with MangoHud overlay from the terminal, use the mangohud --dlsym name-of-game command.
To make the overlay work when launching from start menu or GNOME overview/app grid, edit the config files for the app shortcuts in the start menu (.desktop files) and replace the "Exec" value with mangohud overlay's successful command.
To configure the MangoHud appearance, create a configuration file under .config/MangoHud/ or a game's own directory, or install the graphical tool goverlay by running the command: sudo apt install goverlay
The MangoHud overlay by default shows CPU and GPU utilization ratio, FPS, and frame time, but can be customized to show a range of other information.

The number of CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures) is nearing 250,000 at a rate exceeding over 30,000 per year.
For certain networking equipment each device contained an average of 1,267 software components and an average of 1,120 CVEs, of which, 473 were ranked as having Critical or High vulnerability.
The primary problem is due to using open-source components, which have extensive vulnerabilities and bring in other components with even more vulnerabilities.
Fixing so many vulnerabilities per device is a daunting task for IoT development teams; they are already stretched thin by mushrooming requirements and ever-tighter schedules.
Credential compromise and phishing are still the dominant attack vectors, vulnerability exploitation is rapidly growing and accounting for 1/3 of all incidents according to one report.
The best solution for under-staffed OEMs is to corral CVEs like cattle in the Old West.
