Box makes company documents easier to organize and find with Box Hubs

  • Cloud content management software company Box Inc. has made Box Hubs available. The feature enables customers on its enterprise plans to create intelligent portals, making it easier to organise, curate and publish content. Box Hubs is closely tied to the company's Box AI, which makes workers more productive.
  • Box Hubs allows workers to create a new Box Hub without IT administrators, simply by selecting all the files they want in it. The Hub is customisable with a header, images and icons, and descriptions about its contents. New content can be added at any time without having to change folder locations.
  • Customers on the Box Enterprise plan will be able to use the newly available Box Hubs, which can provide unlimited end-user queries, with the integration of Box AI. Users ask questions relevant to a Hub's content, getting answers, summaries or status updates within the platform.
  • Other features include the ability to search for Hubs and files, send a link to a particular Hub and share externally with secure access. The feature also meets certain US federal standards.
  • Box Hubs can be used by human resources teams, sales teams, brand and marketing teams and others for content including company handbooks, quarterly planning processes and product roadmaps.
  • A professional services firm created a Hub for industry-specific customer stories, while a hospitality business created a Hub for centralising legal documents, and a marketing agency created a Hub for creative resources.
  • Box Hubs' integration with Box AI has the potential to save valuable time for employees, as users can curate critical and relevant content more easily with AI-powered search and summarisation. This makes content more accessible, increasing its value to organisations.
  • Box Hubs was first announced at the company’s Boxworks event in October 2023, and it has now been made widely available after initially launching in beta test access.

Beware, Facebook and LinkedIn are the worst social media for your privacy

  • Researchers at Incogni, a data removal service provider, have discovered that Facebook and LinkedIn are the worst social media for digital privacy while Reddit, Snapchat, and Pinterest are the platforms representing the lowest risk.
  • Incogni assessed the privacy risks for each platform according to five categories: data collection and retention, the level of user control and consent, transparency, transgressions category, and user-friendliness.
  • Among the variables, Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram got the worst results for data collection and retention, while LinkedIn suffered a poor score from fines and data breach incidents.
  • Privacy policies of many platforms are constructed so that people won’t read them since one would need to be at a college literacy level to understand them.
  • It is difficult to delete an account considering that the steps required can vary from a minimum of two clicks (TikTok, Telegram, and Discord) to a maximum of six (Meta products besides WhatsApp, YouTube).
  • Some platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, YouTube, and Discord retained users' personal information for about 180 days even after the user closed the account.
  • Government regulations are not enough to limit the extent of personal data collection, and policymakers need to ensure that violating the law is not more profitable than complying with it.
  • As a rule of thumb, users should avoid giving out their real information and create dedicated email accounts instead of signing up with their main address.
  • It is also important to review privacy settings and the providers' usage and privacy policies while staying updated with any changes that occur.
  • Platforms belonging to Google and Meta make managing privacy more complicated, and users should only share strictly necessary information with the social media company.

Concepts in cloud computing

  • Cloud computing is a technology that offers access and storage of data, applications, and services online. It eliminates the need for physical servers. Key features of cloud computing include on-demand access, access across devices, shared resources, scalability, and pay-as-you-go. The three types of cloud services are Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS). Cloud deployment models include Public Cloud, Private Cloud, and Hybrid Cloud. Virtualization is a technology that creates virtual versions of physical hardware, making the IT systems more efficient and adaptable. Scalability is the ability of a system to expand or contract in response to demand or needs. Agility allows adjusting and changing positions rapidly. High availability is when a system is consistently operational, minimizing any potential downtime. Fault tolerance refers to a system's ability to keep running smoothly even when part of it fails or encounters problems. Global Reach is the capability of reaching out to users globally and providing services or applications.
  • Cloud computing has revolutionized industries by promoting faster innovation, lowering costs, and allowing businesses to focus more on their core activities as opposed to managing IT systems. Elasticity and scalability are different approaches to managing resources according to demand. Scalability involves increasing or decreasing capacity in a strategic manner to accommodate future needs, while elasticity refers to the ability to automatically adapt resources to meet sudden shifts in demand.
