However, recent evidence suggests that AI models form new connections between information during training, allowing them to generate valid answers.

They also advise against using unsecured commercial VPN services and recommend choosing reputable VPN apps with strong security features.

Gamers beware: Windows 11 24H2 update could wreck your colors and crash your games

Windows 11’s 24H2 update has a bug affecting PC gamers, causing colors to be displayed incorrectly.

AI learns to distinguish between aromas of US and Scottish whiskies

Researchers have used artificial intelligence (AI) to predict the aromas of whiskies and determine their origin, whether US or Scottish.
The AI algorithms were trained using the chemical makeup and aroma details of 16 US and Scottish whiskies.
One algorithm achieved over 90% accuracy in distinguishing between US and Scottish whiskies.
The AI approach has potential applications in detecting counterfeit products and optimizing the blending of recycled plastics.

Intel’s promised Arrow Lake autopsy details up to 30% loss in performance

Intel identified five issues with the performance of Arrow Lake CPUs, four of which are resolved now.
The latest BIOS and Windows Updates will restore Arrow Lake processors to their expected level of performance.
Intel found that an incorrect Processor Power Management, or PPM, package in Windows 11 resulted in a 6% to 30% performance drop.
Intel's Application Optimization did not work as intended on Arrow Lake due to the incorrect PPM package.
Older versions of the Easy Anti-Cheat software caused a Blue Screen of Death with Arrow Lake CPUs, which is resolved with an updated driver.
Several "VIP settings" in the BIOS were not configured properly at release, causing variations in performance across motherboards and BIOS versions.
Intel plans on offering performance data accounting for all of the new changes to media at CES 2025 next month.
Intel says complete and intended functionality is restored on Arrow Lake CPUs right now.
A new firmware with additional performance improvements is expected to release in January 2022.
Arrow Lake CPUs previously showed up to a 30% loss in real-world performance compared to Intel's in-house testing, particularly in games.

UK arts and media reject plan to let AI firms use copyrighted material

The UK arts and media industry, including writers, publishers, musicians, photographers, movie producers, and newspapers, have rejected the Labour government's plan to create a copyright exemption for artificial intelligence (AI) companies to train their algorithms.
The Creative Rights in AI Coalition (Crac) representing various creative bodies, including the British Phonographic Industry, the Society of Authors, and newspapers such as the Guardian and Financial Times, stated that existing copyright laws should be respected and enforced.
The proposed system would allow AI companies like Open AI, Google, and Meta to train their AI systems on published works, unless owners actively opt out. Tech UK, an industry lobby group, supports a more open market, while objections have been raised by prominent British creatives, including Paul McCartney and Kate Bush.
The creative industries argue that the onus should be on generative AI developers to seek permission, obtain licenses, and pay rights holders if they want to train algorithms with the ability to create content.

Microsoft lays out reasons Windows 10 gamers should upgrade to Windows 11, but I can pick a few holes in these arguments

Microsoft is encouraging gamers using Windows 10 to upgrade to Windows 11.
AutoHDR mode, DirectStorage tech, Compact Mode for Game Bar, Dynamic Lighting, Windows 11 optimization are some major features which Microsoft says Windows 11 offers for gamers.
Auto HDR is a great feature for those with HDR monitors, while DirectStorage requires an NVMe SSD and is supported on about 20 games only.
Compact Mode for Game Bar is only useful for gaming handhelds.
Upgrading to Windows 11 doesn't have any downsides, either.
Windows 11 doesn't run games appreciably faster than Windows 10 in the main.
One compelling reason for upgrading to Windows 11 is for those having AMD Ryzen 7000 or 9000 processors that boost the speed of the CPU for gaming by around 10 percent.
Linux gaming is a bit of a minefield, albeit less than a few years ago.
Windows 10 will hit End of Life in October 2025.
Microsoft will continue promoting the upgrade to Windows 11 as next year progresses.

The unseen beauty of Antelope Canyon!!

Exploring Antelope Canyon is a treat. A group of five chose to celebrate a friend's birthday by taking a 13-hour tour. They chose the Whynn Hotel as their meeting point with plans to start at 5:00 AM on December 7, 2024. Unfortunately, one of the group members did not respond to calls, leaving the team with a choice to split into two groups and find the missing friend. Ultimately, everyone got together, but they missed the bus by merely five minutes. The team chose to explore Vegas with a hop-on and hop-off bus tour for the day. The birthday boy was generous enough to take responsibility for the missed tour and pay back all his friends, but the team refused the money. In the end, the group spent quality time together, taking group photos and making cherished memories.
The team's reaction to the missed bus: Even in tough times, the team stood by each other, taking timely decisions and acting swiftly, reflecting true leadership and excellent coordination. No one lost their cool to yell at someone or accuse someone of being late or not running, reflecting mutual respect and earned trust. The team's willingness to share the loss showed maturity and support.
The lessons learned from the missed bus situation: Vivek's ownership and accountability to quickly transfer the money are commendable. The crew's trust, respect, simplicity, ownership, and leadership showed great maturity.
